After graduating from art school in Pittsburgh my first photo work was a car crash on interstate 76 in Philadelphia where the car caught fire and was upside down so I called the Philadelphia Daily News and asked the editor if they’d be interested in any of the shots and the editor asked if I got any victims on fire and I said no and the editor was like “sorry kid next time get there quicker this is a competitive business” — later that week the paper ended up needing a couple of the images for a story. So after that I talked my way into a meeting with the photo editor who during this interview says to me “this is the worst portfolio I have ever seen and that I will never amount to anything and should never pick up a camera ever again.” I currently shoot photo assignments for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, NBC, Bloomberg, EPA, Hellgate and more — My photography has been published in just about every magazine and newspaper across the globe for places such as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Harpers, Time, New York Mag, Mother Jones, Rollin Stone, People, Vogue, Atlas Obscura, NBC, Bloomberg, BuzzFeed, W Magazine, The Economist, Vanity fair, The Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, The Guardian, Globe & Mail, National Geographic, Der Spiegel and so many more.
